The Native Experience
MÜRÜNMÜKE
Nature and native culture! Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
Murunmuke is a Natural Reserve created by a family of the Ikü culture, native to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with the purpose this territory be a space for dialogue with the sacred territory and the mountains. This is part of a great project initiated by all the Ikü people who believe that the time has come to share all their knowledge and reflections with the other peoples and thus curb all the bad practices that are deteriorating the planet.
Ancestral agriculture, food, and weaving, cultural exchange, hiking along the reserve trails and wildlife encounters are some of the activities we are invited to do during our visit on Murunmuke.
2 day trip - Cultural and wildlife encounters
DAY 1:
For this trip we will start at 06:00 from your location in Santa Marta where we will go to a car from there to Los Linderos, a rural town about 50 km away. Then we will need motorcycles to continue for another 10 km of trail to arrive to a livestock farm "El Vergel", from there we walk for apro 1 km more until you reach the Don Diego River: the border between the rural and the native territory.
The friendly family Villafañe, from Ikü culture, will receive us with its serene warmth that characterizes native people of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, with them we'll take our lunch and let the family invite us to meet a small but beautiful waterfall that is about 40 minutes from the family home, on the way we will have the opportunity to observe a little of the wildlife that lives in the reserve, enjoy the view and the waters of the waterfall and return home to have our dinner.
During and after dinner among all those who are there we will promote an atmosphere to have a pleasant dialogue in which the protagonist will be the knowledge, wisdom and stories that the Ikü leaders have to tell us, among many other things, they will teach us to how to interpret what nature tells us.
DAY 2:
During and after dinner among all those who are there we will promote an atmosphere to have a pleasant dialogue in which the protagonist will be the knowledge, wisdom and stories that the Ikü leaders have to tell us, among many other things, they will teach us to how to interpret what nature tells us.
The next day we will start the return to the city, but not as we arrived, but making a hike through the jungle thicket of the reserve for about 6 km to the place where we will take our transport. The green of the rain forest, the life that lives in it, the contact with Ikü people during the tour will make this unforgettable walk, a native experience.
